Tips & strategies
Solve smarter, enjoy more
Simple techniques that help you find words faster — without losing the calm.
Six solving tips
- TIP 01
Hunt the rare letters
Letters like Q, Z, X, J and K appear less often. If a word contains one, search for that letter first — there are fewer places to check.
- TIP 02
Sweep the grid systematically
Move a finger or pencil slowly along each row, then each column. A steady sweep beats random searching.
- TIP 03
Look for unusual pairs
Double letters (LL, EE, OO) and uncommon pairs (KN, PH, WR) stand out in a sea of letters.
- TIP 04
Start with the longest words
Long words cover more of the grid, so they are often easier to spot — and they clear space for the rest.
- TIP 05
Turn the page
Rotate the book. A fresh angle makes diagonal and backwards words easier to notice.
- TIP 06
Take a short break
If one word refuses to appear, look away for a minute. Fresh eyes often find it right away.
Make it a mindful moment
Word search is at its best when it is unhurried. Set aside your phone, pour a warm drink and give yourself ten quiet minutes.
- Breathe slowly as you scan each row.
- Notice how the grid patterns begin to feel familiar.
- Celebrate each word you find, however small.
